GCAA Courts Technical Colleges

“The aggregate industry in Georgia is searching for ways to promote our industry as well as help our members fill voids in workforce shortage,” said the Georgia Construction Aggregate Association (GCAA).

A small group of producer members was formed in the spring to help tackle this important issue. GCAA and producer members have started a dialogue with the Georgia Technical College System to better connect with technical schools around the state and heighten the awareness of aggregate producer needs.

On Friday, Oct. 21, Vulcan Materials hosted a tour and briefing at its Norcross Quarry with staff from the Georgia Technical College System (GTCS) and staff from Gwinnett Technical College. It was a very productive meeting and tour, according to GCAA. The association will work with GTCS to schedule similar tours with other schools in Georgia.

Participating in the meeting from the CTCS staff were Rebecca Alexander and Jennifer Roberts; as well as the GA Technical College System staff members Kathryn Hornsby; Steve Conway and Saundra King.

Representatives from the aggregate industry were Jared Wendell, Hanson Aggregates; Dina McCreadie, Martin Marietta; Ben Mays: Nat Peters, Corey Duke and Sheila Nunez, Vulcan Materials and Jeff Wansley, GCAA
